Wedding Celebrant in Sidmouth
Weddings by the sea in beautiful Sidmouth
Sidmouth is a contender for my favourite place in Devon. My family loves heading to the beach for a BBQ and a competitive game of frisbee.

Set between the red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast, the town has a distinctly Regency feel, with elegant buildings, a traditional seafront, colourful gardens and the sea stretching out in front of you. It’s the sort of place where you can combine a wedding with a proper Devon weekend – stroll along the seafront, have fish and chips, explore the coastline and, if the weather behaves itself, spend some time on the beach.
And there are several very different options when it comes to the wedding itself.
Connaught Gardens
High above the seafront, Connaught Gardens is probably the most unusual wedding setting in Sidmouth. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the views across the bay and Jurassic Coast are spectacular.
It’s not a conventional private wedding venue. The gardens remain a public space, with a designated area used for wedding ceremonies, so there can be something rather special about getting married somewhere that’s part of the town rather than hidden away behind closed gates.
I’ve conducted ceremonies at Connaught Gardens and have spent plenty of time there with my own family too – including making my children pose for far too many photographs!
Kennaway House
If you’d prefer a historic building, Kennaway House is a Grade II* listed Regency villa close to the seafront. It’s a very different proposition from Connaught Gardens, with period architecture and indoor spaces as well as gardens.
It can work particularly well if you want the elegance of a historic Sidmouth wedding but don’t want to rely entirely on the Devon weather.
Sidmouth Harbour Hotel
For couples who like the idea of being right beside the sea, the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel offers a more traditional hotel wedding, with the seafront and beach just outside. It’s also handy if you want accommodation, food and the wedding celebration all in one place.
Beyond the wedding venues
And then there are the possibilities beyond the established wedding venues – private homes, gardens and other locations around Sidmouth and the surrounding Sid Valley.
That’s one of the things I love about this part of Devon. You don’t have to choose between seaside and wedding venue. You can find a setting that gives you both.
I’m based in Exeter and regularly travel to Sidmouth to conduct ceremonies. Whether you’re planning a grand celebration, something small and intimate or a wedding that’s deliberately a little bit different, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
