Dartmoor Wedding Celebrant
Getting married on Dartmoor
There’s something very special about Dartmoor. The landscape, the sense of space and that slightly wild, windswept feeling make it quite unlike anywhere else in Devon.

If you love the idea of getting married somewhere that feels a little removed from everyday life, it’s easy to see the appeal.
I’ve had the pleasure of conducting a wedding at Dartmoor Zoo, which is a wonderfully unusual place to get married. It’s a great example of the fact that a Dartmoor wedding doesn’t have to mean a traditional country house or hotel.
There are plenty of ways to make the character of the area part of your day.
Dartmoor wedding venues
There’s a really good choice of wedding venues on and around Dartmoor, from grand country houses and elegant hotels to smaller, more informal places.
Bovey Castle
Bovey Castle is one of the best-known options, sitting within Dartmoor National Park at North Bovey. It has a choice of ceremony spaces, including outdoor ceremonies in the Summerhouse, more intimate rooms and larger spaces for bigger celebrations.
It also offers exclusive use, so it can work particularly well if you want to make a whole weekend of your wedding.
Two Bridges, Gidleigh Park and The Dartmoor Lodge
For something that feels very much part of the moor, Two Bridges Hotel is right in the heart of Dartmoor at Two Bridges.
Gidleigh Park near Chagford offers a more luxurious country-house setting, while The Dartmoor Lodge near Ashburton is a more relaxed option.
A little less conventional
There are also some lovely venues that are a little less conventional. Coombe Trenchard, near Okehampton, has a wonderful historic feel, while Badgers Holt at Dartmeet puts you right into the Dartmoor landscape. Lewtrenchard Manor, also near Okehampton, is another country-house option with a very different atmosphere.
And then there’s Dartmoor Zoo. It’s certainly not your standard wedding venue, which is exactly why it works so well for some couples. The zoo offers ceremonies in the historic Goodamoor House, as well as larger summer weddings in marquees surrounded by the grounds and animals. It’s a brilliant choice if you want your wedding to be memorable for reasons beyond the dress and the flowers!
Weddings that make the most of Dartmoor
You don’t have to spend your whole wedding day inside a venue to enjoy Dartmoor. The landscape is one of the biggest attractions, and it can become part of the day in all sorts of ways – from photographs on the moor to an outdoor ceremony or simply having somewhere beautiful to escape to with your guests.
Dartmoor also lends itself particularly well to smaller weddings and elopements. You can have a day that’s intimate and relaxed rather than feeling as though you have to fill a huge venue with guests.
Your Dartmoor celebrant
As an Exeter-based celebrant working across Devon, I love the variety of weddings I get to be part of, and Dartmoor offers something quite different from the coast or the more traditional country-house venues elsewhere in the county.
My role is to make the ceremony personal to you, wherever you’ve chosen to have it. I’ll spend time getting to know you both, find out what makes you tick and what matters to you, and then create a ceremony that sounds like you – not a generic wedding script.
Whether you’re planning a celebration at Bovey Castle, an intimate wedding at one of Dartmoor’s smaller venues, something completely different at Dartmoor Zoo, or a day that simply makes the most of the landscape, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
Dartmoor is a pretty extraordinary place to get married. Let’s make sure your ceremony feels just as special.
