LGBTQ+ & Same-Sex Wedding Celebrant in Exeter & Devon

Your love story. Your wedding. Your way.

And when you’ve found someone you want to spend your life with, your wedding ceremony should celebrate your relationship – not someone else’s idea of what a wedding is supposed to look like.

Every couple has a story.

I’m Julie Fox, an independent wedding celebrant based in Exeter, Devon, and LGBTQ+ weddings are one of my specialities.

I’ve conducted ceremonies for lesbian, gay and transgender couples, and I love creating weddings that reflect the people at the heart of them.

A wedding that feels like you

There isn’t one way to have a wedding.

You might want something traditional, something completely unconventional or something somewhere in between.

Perhaps you want a romantic ceremony with all the classic elements. Perhaps you want something funny and irreverent. Perhaps you’ve got ideas that don’t fit neatly into any traditional wedding format.

That’s absolutely fine.

As your celebrant, I’ll work with you to create a ceremony that reflects your relationship, your personalities and the things that matter to you.

You don’t have to follow somebody else’s rules.

Telling your story

One of my favourite parts of creating a wedding ceremony is getting to know the couple properly.

I’ll talk to you about how you met, your relationship, the things you’ve done together, the challenges you’ve overcome and the things that make you laugh.

I’ll interview you together and separately, so you each get the opportunity to tell me your side of the story.

Then I’ll bring it all together into a ceremony that sounds like you.

Your family and friends can be involved too, whether that’s through readings, stories, music, performances or simply being part of the ceremony itself.

And, importantly, I’ll never assume what your relationship or your wedding should look like.

I’ll listen.

What does an LGBTQ+ wedding ceremony look like?

Whatever you want it to look like.

You can include:

  • Personal vows
  • Exchange of rings
  • Your love story
  • Readings and poems
  • Favourite music
  • Family and friends
  • Children
  • Cultural or spiritual traditions
  • Memories of people who can’t be there
  • Your own ideas and traditions
  • Something nobody has thought of before

Amber and Nicola had their dogs walk them down the aisle. Aimee and Daisy rocked Exeter Castle. Jay and Peter kept it traditional.

You can keep all the elements you love, discard the ones you don’t, or invent your own.

There are no rules about who walks down the aisle, who says what, who gives whom away or what you call each other.

It’s your wedding.

What about the legal ceremony?

If you’re having a celebrant-led wedding in England and Wales, you’ll need to complete the legal marriage separately.

For many couples, this is simply a matter of having a small legal ceremony at the register office with your two witnesses, and then having the personalised celebration you actually want with your family and friends.

You can find more information about how this works on my The Legal Bit page.

An experienced, open-minded celebrant

I’ve worked with all sorts of people and all sorts of ceremonies, and I bring a friendly, straightforward and completely non-judgemental approach to every wedding.

You won’t have to spend your time explaining why you don’t want a traditional “bride and groom” ceremony.

You won’t have to fit yourselves into a template.

And you certainly won’t have to apologise for wanting your wedding to be different.

My job is to listen, understand what matters to you and then help you create a ceremony that celebrates it.

“Thank you so much for your incredible service, everyone we spoke to said it was the best wedding service they’d seen. It was the best start to our wedding day, so thank you so much.”
