Getting married in Honiton
Honiton sits in a lovely part of East Devon, surrounded by rolling countryside and with the Jurassic Coast just a short drive away.

It’s a great location if you want a rural Devon wedding without feeling completely cut off from civilisation – Exeter is close by, and the A30 and A35 make it relatively easy for guests to reach from further afield.
The town itself is famous for its lace-making heritage and regular antiques and vintage markets, but for weddings it’s the countryside around Honiton that really comes into its own.
There are country houses, farms, woodland, historic buildings and private estates, giving you plenty of options depending on the sort of day you’re planning.
One of the best-known wedding venues in the area is Deer Park, just outside Honiton at Buckerell. Set in 80 acres of private grounds, it’s an exclusive-use country house with gardens, lawns and countryside views. There are several ceremony settings, including the Italian Garden, Walled Garden, Orangery and other indoor spaces, along with accommodation for guests.
It’s very much a venue for couples who want the whole country-house experience – ceremony, reception, photographs, food and accommodation all in one place.
If you’d prefer something a bit more quirky, Lady Margaret’s Medieval Hall is right in Honiton itself. It’s a rather different proposition from a country-house wedding, with its intimate setting and central location.
And then there are the more rural options around Honiton, including woodland and farm settings such as Boveys Down Farm and Tracey Estate. These sorts of venues can be particularly appealing if you’re looking for something relaxed and outdoorsy rather than a traditional hotel wedding.
I’ve also conducted ceremonies at Burrow Farm Gardens near Dalwood and Netherton Hall at Farway, and, most memorably, Kelli and Dan’s cowboy-themed wedding at Pocket Alpaca.
Honiton also gives you plenty of scope to think beyond established wedding venues. If you’ve got access to a family garden, farm, private property or another meaningful location, a celebrant ceremony can give you the freedom to use it, subject to the necessary permissions and practicalities.
I’ve conducted weddings throughout East Devon, so Honiton is very much on my doorstep. Whether you’re planning a country-house celebration, a relaxed rural wedding or something completely different, I’ll create a ceremony that fits the setting.
