How many boring weddings have you been to?

The sort where you’re secretly wondering what time the buffet opens? And Uncle Greg has dozed off in the corner?

Your wedding deserves better than that.

Your wedding day is a major life event. You’ve invested time, energy and money into bringing together the people you love, and your ceremony should be one of the most memorable parts of the day.

That’s where I come in.

I’m Julie Fox, an independent wedding celebrant based in Exeter, Devon, and I create and conduct completely personalised wedding ceremonies across Devon and beyond.

Whether you want something traditional, something completely unconventional, or something somewhere in between, I’ll work with you to create the ceremony you’ve imagined.

Your wedding, your way

There are no rules about what your wedding ceremony has to look like when you choose a celebrant.

Want a Star Wars themed wedding*?

You’ve got it.

Want a game show as part of your vow renewal*?

No problem.

Want to get married by the sea as the sun goes down*?

Absolutely.

And if you’d prefer something traditional, romantic and timeless, that’s fine too.

*All of these are genuine ceremonies I’ve officiated!

The beauty of having a celebrant is that we can create a ceremony around you rather than trying to fit you into a predetermined format. Your wedding won’t be just another one on a conveyor belt.

You can include the traditions you love and leave out the ones you don’t. You can bring together different cultural or religious traditions, involve your children and family, tell your story, include your favourite music and readings, or create something that has never been done before.

The sky really is the limit.

Let’s have a chat about your wedding.

You don’t need to have everything worked out before you get in touch.

A ceremony that tells your story

The heart of my bespoke wedding service is getting to know you properly.

I’ll interview you together and then separately, giving you both the opportunity to tell me about your relationship, your adventures, the things that make you laugh, the challenges you’ve overcome and all the little details that make you who you are as a couple.

I’ll use those conversations to create a ceremony that sounds like you.

Your family and friends can be involved too, if you’d like them to be. We can include stories, memories, messages and contributions from the people who matter most.

The result is a ceremony that is personal, meaningful and often very funny – because nobody knows your relationship better than you do.

And your guests get to hear the stories behind the couple they’re there to celebrate.

What can you include in your wedding ceremony?

You can have as much or as little as you like.

If you love the traditional elements of a wedding ceremony, we can include them:

  • Expressions of intent – “I do” or “I will”
  • Readings
  • Personalised vows
  • Exchange of rings
  • A marriage blessing
  • Announcement of the newlyweds
  • Your first kiss

But we don’t have to stop there.

Make it completely personal

You could also include:

  • Your love story, told with warmth and humour
  • Words from family and friends
  • Song lyrics
  • Acknowledgement of loved ones who can’t be there
  • Your children taking part
  • Photographs
  • Live performances from musicians or dancers
  • A declaration of love and certificate signing
  • Singing together
  • A ceremony that’s longer or shorter than usual
  • Rituals such as handfasting, jumping the broom or a unity candle ceremony

And yes, I’ve had couples include flash mobs, celebrity appearances, dogs carrying the rings and impromptu singalongs.

Again, all genuine!

Genuine. Authentic. Professional

One of the things I hear most often from couples is that their guests thought that I was an old friend.

That’s really important to me. My ceremonies are 100% authentic, always written by me personally. AI is amazing and I use it for everything from planning family holidays to working out a new workout programme but NEVER for writing my ceremonies. I could spot an AI-written wedding a mile away. I’m a professional, trained celebrant – every word will be my own.

A wedding ceremony your guests will remember

A wedding ceremony shouldn’t just be something that happens to your guests while they’re waiting for the drinks reception. It should bring everyone into your story and make them feel part of your celebration.

I’ll tell your story in a way that keeps people listening, laughing and occasionally reaching for a tissue.

As one couple from Exmouth said:

“…Our guests (said) that she was the best celebrant they’d seen, they thought she must be a friend with how well she knew us and her sharing of our story was very entertaining.”

Sophie and Ben · Exmouth

That’s exactly what I’m aiming for: a ceremony that feels intimate and personal, even when you’re standing in front of 100 or more people.

What’s included in a bespoke wedding ceremony?

My bespoke wedding ceremony service includes:

  • A completely personalised, one-of-a-kind ceremony
  • Individual interviews to capture your story
  • Custom-written vows, or help writing your own
  • Suggestions for readings and music
  • Input from family and friends, if you’d like it
  • A qualified and fully insured independent celebrant
  • Professional delivery of your ceremony on the day
  • Flexibility to create the ceremony you want
  • A declaration of love certificate, if required
  • A digital copy of your completed ceremony to treasure

And, importantly, I’ll be there to guide you through the whole process.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want. That’s my job.

Let’s have a chat about your wedding.

You don’t need to have everything worked out before you get in touch.

Why choose me as your wedding celebrant?

I’ve spent my career learning how to communicate with people and create memorable experiences.

I started out as an entertainer, learning how to make an audience smile, before moving into the corporate world, where I spent many years creating events and helping executives make the right impression.

As a celebrant, I bring all of that experience together.

I’m confident speaking in front of an audience, comfortable thinking on my feet and passionate about getting the details right.

But perhaps most importantly, I have a positive, can-do attitude.

Nothing is ever a problem.

I’ll guide you, make suggestions and take care of the ceremony itself – but ultimately, it’s your wedding.

Your day. Your way.

What happens when you book?

  1. The first step is simply to have a chat.

I’ll arrange a phone call or video call so you can tell me about your wedding, what you’ve got planned and what you’re looking for from your ceremony.

  2. You can ask me anything you like, and I’ll explain how I work and what I can offer.

  3. If you decide I’m the right celebrant for you, I’ll send you a booking form and we’ll get started on making the best day of your lives even better. A £200 deposit secures your date.
