The house was built around 1760 for Exeter woollen merchant and banker Sir John Duntze and has been in the same family since 1855. The manor underwent extensive restoration before reopening as a wedding and events venue.
Today, it combines the character of the original house with modern facilities for weddings.
A choice of beautiful wedding spaces
Rockbeare Manor is an exclusive-use wedding venue, so you and your guests have the estate to yourselves.
Civil ceremonies can take place in several locations, including the elegant Adam-style Dining Room, which has original plasterwork, marble pillars, a crystal chandelier and views across the South Lawn.
For larger ceremonies, the Ballroom has high ceilings, chandeliers and full-length windows overlooking the parkland.
And if the Devon weather is behaving itself, you can get married outside beneath the arch of the South Pavilion, beside the fountain with views towards the manor and Dartmoor.
For the reception, the Ballroom can seat between 50 and 160 guests for the wedding breakfast and up to 200 for the evening celebration.
There are also 13 bedroom suites, all reserved for the wedding party.
Rav and Natasha’s wedding
Rav and Natasha’s wedding was one of my favourites – Rav was in the Marines and he and Natasha wanted their ceremony to be filled with the kind of humour that would make his fellow Marines laugh. No pressure there then…! Thankfully, there was so much laughter, mostly at poor Rav’s expense, that I didn’t think we’d make it to the end!
This venue is simply stunning. Grand chandeliers, impressive water features and a friendly events team. If you’re looking for an exclusive-use country house wedding venue near Exeter, with beautiful grounds, historic architecture and accommodation for your closest friends and family, Rockbeare Manor offers plenty to work with.
