The club is in Countess Wear, just off Topsham Road, surrounded by the golf course and green space but only a few minutes from Exeter city centre.
And despite the name, this isn’t simply a golf club with a function room bolted on.
The wedding venue is centred around Wear Park, a Georgian manor house with views across the course, and the club has been part of Exeter’s history for more than 125 years. It was established as a members’ club in 1895 and moved to Wear Park in 1929.
Weddings at Wear Park
The Topsham Room provides the ceremony setting, with large windows looking across the putting greens towards the fountain on the 18th hole.
After the ceremony, guests can move through to Wear Park Restaurant and Bar for drinks, the wedding breakfast, speeches and celebrations. The ground floor of Wear Park can be used exclusively for the wedding, with the restaurant and dining areas giving you views across the grounds.
There’s also a veranda for welcome drinks, while the Georgian interiors give the venue a more traditional country-house feel.
For larger evening celebrations, the Duckworth Suite can accommodate up to 130 guests. It has its own bar, stage, dance floor and lighting, so the space can be transformed from wedding breakfast to proper party venue.
Natalia and Simon’s wedding
Natalia and Simon’s wedding at Exeter Golf and Country Club was a long time in the making. We planned the wedding in 2019 – and then a worldwide pandemic got in our way! It was almost two years later that they were finally able to say “I do”, and it was the first wedding I conducted after lockdown was lifted. It was so wonderful to be back doing what I love! We were joined by a very special guest – Natalia and Simon’s baby who had been born during lockdown – a bit of rewriting was required!
More than just the wedding room
One of the advantages of a venue like Exeter Golf & Country Club is that there are plenty of facilities on site.
The Wear Park Restaurant offers contemporary British food using seasonal and local produce, while the outdoor areas provide space for drinks and photographs.
There’s also Wear Park Spa, which offers treatments and beauty packages – handy if you fancy making a bit more of the wedding preparations or treating yourself before the big day.
The venue also has extensive parking and is particularly convenient for guests who don’t want to travel out into the Devon countryside. You’re close to Exeter city centre while still getting that feeling of being surrounded by green space.
