Weddings at The Cosy Club, Exeter

A city wedding with a difference

Not every wedding needs a country house, a sweeping lawn and a twelve-page list of canapé options.

The grand dining room at Cosy Club Exeter, with chandeliers and green panelled walls

Jemma and Nathan chose somewhere rather different for their wedding: The Cosy Club in the centre of Exeter.

Set on Southernhay Gardens, Cosy Club Exeter occupies the historic Halford Wing of the old Dean Clarke Hospital. Inside, it’s a wonderfully eclectic mix of old and new – high ceilings, striking architectural features, mismatched furniture, velvet lampshades, artwork and plenty of personality.

A wedding venue in the middle of Exeter

The location makes Cosy Club particularly appealing if you want a city wedding.

You’re right on Southernhay Gardens, within easy reach of Exeter’s shops, hotels, restaurants and transport links. And because it’s a restaurant and bar as well as an events venue, there’s no sense that you’re walking into a conventional wedding package.

The venue has a terrace for outdoor drinks and celebrations, private dining facilities and the option of exclusive full-venue hire. It also has dedicated event packages, including wedding receptions.

For smaller gatherings, there’s The Snug – a private dining room tucked away within the former hospital wing, seating up to 12 people.

Jemma and Nathan’s wedding

Jemma and Nathan chose Cosy Club for their wedding, creating a day that suited them rather than trying to recreate a traditional hotel wedding. They had a string quartet playing as their guests arrived for a touch of elegance but they also wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy a beer or two during the ceremony if they wanted to! They were a very sociable couple with lots of friends there to share their day.

And that’s what I like about a venue such as Cosy Club. The setting already feels like a place you’d hang out with friends. It has bags of personality, so you don’t need to cover every surface in bunting to make it feel special.

A relaxed Exeter wedding

Cosy Club is particularly well suited to couples who want something relaxed, sociable and a little bit different.

You can have the ceremony, drinks and reception in the same central Exeter location, with the restaurant team taking care of the food and drinks while you concentrate on enjoying the day.

And afterwards? You’re already in the city – so there are plenty of options if you want to carry on celebrating.
